Missing the point: Just Being Youth Doesnt Mean Being Pro-Change

Christine You are right to an extent.
But you are missing the issues. The issue is not age but our politics.. Kenya's Politics. Let us not get our anger vented on the youth now.. please.

After the Labour Party in the UK has just elected Ed Miliband- 40 years old; the lesson to learn from there is that our politics are wrong here. We never believe in organizations, we do politics around individuals. We have missed for 50 years and Yes we are not about to fix it. The constitution offers a great opportunity but we must not miss the point.

For me the Q remains: How come PLO has not prosecuted any one since he has been at KACC on corruption, money laundering, name it? How come no party get deregistered yet they break the law? How come How politics remains the same: Money, violence, sexism, content free?

On the last item: What was the content difference btn Ndolo, Sonko and Wathika? Ok so who of the three is not a suspect of dubious money, corruption etc. Christine name your clean man in Makadara.

These are the issues but let us not divert the nation into villifying the youth. Or the older members of our nation simply because of age. The spirit of positive change is to be found in youth. Give as many examples as you want of the wrong youthful politicians in the land but for every example of a great and change minded leader who is old today that you give, you will remember that they were more change driven when they were young than today. They have simply remained consistent.

Let me attempt. Why is it that when old corrupt guys get elected it does not receive so much scrutiny as when young misadventourous ones get elected. How come the re-election  of Mwakwere did not receive so much criticism as Mbuvi Sonko's?

It is because People expect young people to be change  driven and ethical, clean, accountable and Mbuvi does not seem to meet fit this bill. So then we must try more younger politicians because the expectations on them to perform are higher.

But Before you condemn the people of Makadara I beg that you listen to them a little more clearly without your pre-conceived judgment. The youth are associated with change. And change means that some one stands for either a different policy or a different style. What would the election of Ndolo or Wathika have helped the people of Makadara with by the way? The people wanted some different style not policies and that is exactly the thing about change. Change is always not substantive. It is even about form. Sadly

I urge Kenyans to try many more younger politicians in principle. If they miss content, they are likely to get innovativeness and versatility. Christine, Raila was not as conservative as he is today 20 years ago if you remember. Age has made him such a conservative who even supports the Provincial administration and even does not see the problem with Ruto being in the cabinet. Now he is old and embraces anything that can give him power.

I am embarrassed by Mbuvi but my criticism of him is not about his age. I think age gives him the freedom to try new things. What concerns me is the fact that he can not explain where he gets all the money that he has. And that brings me to ask. How come no one has prosecuted this guys who walk around with Money bags? Will PLO do something?

Your recommendations need tightening. Kenya's problem is the lack of a democratic and revolutionary party. We have a long way to go. But the New constitution offers a fabulous opportunity.

I am happy Safina ran  only clean candidates in Bomachoge, Shinyalu, Juja. We could not get any one to run in Makadara or Starehe so we rejected all requests.

Some people think that just being youth means change. This is not necessarily true. Some Kenyan Youth leaders have been so dissapointing. There are youth in Kenya who have been elected and have been worse than the wazees. Take for example the earlier Danson Mungatana, someone like Mbugua of kamkunji, someone like Joseph Kutuny and many more including Livondo. So as we think youth, we must scrutinise the kind of youth we want for change. Sonko seems very empty when it comes policy and truth be told he didnt win because of his policies of change but he literally bought the seat.

The Youth have the greatest opportunity in 2012 to get into office-be it at the county level or at the national government level and bring in the change that they have been waiting for, for so long but WE MUST ELECT THE YOUTH WHO ARE PRO-CHANGE not just any other youth and I believe we have many of such youth in Kenya. The only means for Kenyans to elect pro-change youth is for them to offer themselves as candidates at the General elections and more so educate the populace that buying votes doesnt equal to a development conscious leader. Thats why the people of Makadara got it all wrong when they allowed themselves to be bought with meat, money and beer.

'Sonko': I'm not as wealthy as people think

I see him becoming Nairobi Gov.And at 35 yrs of age, he can do
alot.Young leaders needs to be on the front line in 2012 now that we
have a chance to phase Wazee politicians out once and for all.No self
respecting politician would ever admit to working in Government; they
prefer to think of themselves as serving the nation. My foot!
distortions coming out of Parliament today...unreal!''. They say ''Iam
serving the nation'' and they characterize their work as ''public
service.'' WHAT PUBLIC SERVICE????
