Remember the Bible is a mythical novel, with characters whose roles we never get to know about. They are placed there,then suddenly they vanish. Cain is one of them. What am saying is that you are likely to get a proper answer if you regard the Bible as a mythical book, that creates mysteries around the object of God.
Christians never want to confront these real questions, because they have made a decision to be narrow minded, and imagine God will get annoyed and punish them for their lack of faith. But this is not the case. By questioning, we understand what religion is all about.
