Re: Mambo Vipi Juja?

Jagem,
This is very hilarious. I love Mirie. I used to hear of him but never imagined he could be that creative. Those landlords were brutal but I like the part where he wanted to know if you are a PC to sleep past six! It comes out better when said in that thick Gikuyu accent in Swahili. PC becomes VC and you start wondering whether he was talking of Eshiwani or Isaiah Mathenge! Now bring more memoirs of those brutal landlords!

I never lived in Ruiru. My first settlement was at Kahawa. initially housed by Gitu Kahengeri's son. Single room with a communal toilet and bathroom. Many folks preferred going to the bush because you only enjoyed the privacy if you were the first one after it was cleaned. My friend who was also a graduate student then in KU was more innovative. He would insist that one had to do the short call before doing the long call! The goal was to use the short call to clean the long call left on the side of the hole! We are talking of a pit latrine in nairobi! Tumetoka mbali! The hole was too small even for a marksman and so most time some of the long call stuff was left on the side. Then kids too scared to fall in the hole and so deposited the stuff on the side and so my friends demand that you do short call first to use to clean long call!

From the son, i went to live at the fathers. The red tiled single rooms self contained house housing graduate students mostly next to kahawa Barracks bus stop. That was paradise, coming from Kosovo located nearby. it looked like was meant to be a lodging.

I lived raha mstarehe here until I got evicted by kahengeri's daughter. She had her own place nearby but she would sneak a man into our compound. The room where she would be enjoying the labor of her dad's work was the place with the main switch. If you cooked using electricity (which he paid), power tripped off and went off. My key opened the switch room cum brothel. You would not know when she had a visitor. So I am sneaking inside to return the power (switch on) when i found her stark naked being hammered. The door was wide open, thanks to Kuria and what hit me was some kind of pornographic view. She was cute and even looked better with the Eve's suit. She called something "ngui ino" (you dog) and I took off. I started looking for another place. Meanwhile, her father was hearing complains about her bringing men and harassing us and now she knew who was behind that nonsense. The dad was a nice man but the daughter seemed like she came from Beirut.

But nothing close to Miri wa Kaburogo's palace!

From Kahawa, I moved to Githurai 44 and so Zimmerman was my other joint and we may have met in one of the bars. What was the name of the one with a bar in the basement? Banker? Another bar on the side of the road facing the pigs farm and next to the stinking carnary.

You crossed the river in a marshy area from Zimmerman to Githurai 44 and the first shop you met was run by my old man. I dont know why I would cross that place because it looked like a robbers den but I never heard of mugging there. May be because we only passed by there when it was daylight. You would not miss me at Uncle Sam especially with Ulinzi band in perfomance every weekend. i loved their perfomance of a Luhyia hit which was about some cows (engombe or something close to cows).

Kwani where did you guys live in Ruich. At first I lived in Mirie wa Kaburugo's Palace, just behind the Police Station. But I had to leave. I got pissed off by Mirie coming to demand for rent at 6:00am on every first day of the Month. He would walk into the compound and start knocking doors as is he was going to break them. And if the tenant did not open, Mirie would inquire to know if you owned that House you rented. And if not why would you be sleeping as if you were a PC, that is beyond 6:00am, that he had to come and wake you up to demand for his overdue rent money? I just had to get out of that place for the Government was never prompt on remmitting my salary to the bank, before the 1st of every month. So I moved over to Wakanyeki's Palace, Just behind Minno Inn. That was before they constructed the Bus terminus.

You know Mirie was a funny man, actually very funny. One time they entered into a contract with Mr Lucas, the Chotara man who owned Amigoes. Lucas was going out of Business and wanted to sell. But Mirie told him that he could not afford buying the entire building. So they agreed that Mirie would pay part of the money and have the Ground floor while Mr Lucas remained on the upper floor.

During this period, Kevin, Mr Luca's son and Muema, Waira Kamau's nephew, hosted Discoes there, on the upper floor, every weekend. This went on for sometime. Then one day Mirie dropped in with a Bombshell. He came with Police from Kiambu and a demolition Squad. He then sent for somebody to fetch for Lucas and to inform Mr Lucas that he, Mirie, was going to proceed to demolish the lower section of the Building, since he wanted to put up a different type of a structure. So he informed Mr Lucas to hold onto the upper floor while he demolised his part of the Building.

Mr Lucas and his Son Kevin did not have an option but to vacate the Building. They had to remove everything that was on the upper floor. By that time Mirie had pulled down the doors windows and was already tearing the Columns of the Building. Kevin was my neighbor at Wakulima, so I helped him remove stuff from the upper floor. When everything was out. Mirie suspended the operation. He never tore the Building down at all. All that circus was Mirie's way of claiming ownership to the entire building.

I was later to learn that the whole "thuggery like scene" was done by Mirie because he did not like Muema, who was related to Waira Kamau, running his discoes in that Building. Mirie and Waira were said not to be able to drink from the same water source. So he had to do something to kick the Muema out.

Muema moved out and negotiated with the owner of Munno Inn. And so Discoes shifted to Munno Inn. Later on some chaps came from Nairobi, and started Hosting Discoes in Danga. This apparently happened when Wazee, owners of Dang and Munno iin, and their friends were drinking at a Club in Kiambu, then it is said an arguement arose, and Munno removed his gun and placed it on the table as a show off, of his security. This prompted Danga to pull out two hand guns, and placed them on the table. From there the drink ended and every one of those friends had to leave the club.

Later on Danga insisted of having discoes hosted at his Hotel to rival Munno Inn. The Disco floor was much more spacious and well covered not Like Munno which was in the Open on the Upper floor. So many of us shifted to the New joint. In 89 I left Ruich for Zimmer
I have real fond memories of the Place. I used to organize tournaments at that Dusty Football pitch, between Majengo and Town just opposite Gnanjivan Factory. The Pitch was christened "Nakivumbi" Stadium. So Kuria now do you understand why am very sentimental about Juja?

Thanks Omondi for this one. You bring sweet memories. I lived in Kahawa/KU area from 85 to 96 when I left the country and so Ruiru was my home town too. Danga used to be our 5 star hotel. Whoever designed Ruiru had those village architectural designs and so it looks like a rural town. Most folks from Kahawa/Githurai went to Ruich as you call it for "hapiness".

Did you know that a Masonic Lodge exist next to Ruiru High and next to Kabogo's home? I dont think Kabogo got anything to do with it. Some wazungu and rich folks visited it and one of Kabogo's sister was kind enough to get us inside the masonic lodge. We gave the watchman kitu kidogo and we went inside. It was scarily abit but being thirsty of religion, we wanted to know if the devil resided there and seems he did.

We would cross by the river. Later ngeta would be the order of the day and one crossed the river during the day. Then even walking from Thika Rd bus stop to Ruiru town was hell. The thugs would knock you down anytime.

Yes, Kabogo is a man of the people and so I am not surprised to hear boda boda folks see him as one of their own. That is why he abandoned the helicopter because it made him detached from the mwananchi and that costed him some votes in 2007.

One day Thuo roasted meat for Witeithie folks, lots of meat near Mangu High. It was being roasted in the open and fellows were waiting for meat to be ready. Kabogo arrived in style. In his chopper and hovered around several times as he watched meat being roasted. When the copter left the scene (it never landed), all that meat could only go to waste. So much dust, thanks to Kabogo. Thuo lost his money and so his meat. Dont joke with Kabogo. He is a thug per excellence.

Kuria-Mwangi,

I like the way u describe Kabogo. It seems u actually are in touch with Ruich as the young maboyz call it.

I lived in ruich to be precise plaza next to jungle and all to know is that ruich bars are more than shops combined with all other enterprises.Danga is now having a upstairs dance floor by the name Tazmenia. Its fully loaded with Ruich Campus njyes.Danga is still the place to be.

How he become rich as a topic better answered by boda boda operators in the area who act as his entourage wherever he is around,i hope u guys never swam around the bridge n just to inform you the next time you around the place its safer nowadays n Ngeta doesn't exist in the bridge any more.

I want to congratulate Kabogo for winning and making ruich a better place for the youth so that they are not branded Mungich when they ask for what is rightfully theirs.

Gachoki,
I thought you would support Kabogo because he comes from Ruiru. His home or father's home is across the River (Ndarugu?) on the huge coffee plantation next to the masons temple. I worked with his sister there in KU
and have swam in that River and been to mheshimiwa's a couple of time. Then he was just an ordinary raia and dont know he came to swim in money all over sudden. If you know how he became that rich let me know because what I am doing ni kazi bure tu and had hoped to one day own a helicopter like Kabogo. Now even owning a parachute is almost impossible. Is Danga still the hot spot in Ruiru?

Subject: Mambo Vipi Juja?

Here is a chance to test your knowledge of politics, if you were to vote whom would you vote for and who do you think will win in Juja the town of pineapples ?

Kijana:

Juja cannot be the town of Pineapples because nobody grows pineapples there. It is a town of sisal (if you look at Juja town itself and even the constituency). One has to cross River Chania to be in the Pineapple country and that is Murang'a.

In the Juja politics, we cannot ignore the politics of Murang'a-Kiambu. While Gatanga and Kandara were and are in Thika District, they are Murang'a County. Murang'a has never forgiven Kenyatta for snatching Thika from her and that is what Kabogo is referring to when he loudly and stupidly commented that Juja people are happy to be in Kiambu County and are opposed to those who wanted it to Murang'a. He was attacking PK. Thika has a large population of folks from Murang'a, with a large population hailing from Gatanga and Kandara. These will probably vote with Peter Kenneth and that is why I think Nalijomp is right to state that Alice Ng'ang'a must be counted with the bulls. It is Ndichu you should remove from the bulls list and in his place you put Alice.

Uhuru and PK do not see eye to eye and so you need to look at the Juja battle from that line. However, Kabogo is one heck of a candidate you cannot ignore but does not have the backing of a huge bull. If PK was supporting Kabogo, then he would have given Thuo a harder time since he is from Kiambu and Murang'a folks in Thika and Githurai would have supported him. Kiambu may split the votes to give Alice a good chance but Juja is a Kiambu country.

I think Thuo stands the best chance and is my best bet. He has the support of the power barons and so one could say that Kibaki and the rest of the PNU is behind Thuo. Kalonzo comes in and that draws the sizable Kamba population in Juja. Remember Kilimambogo and surrounding areas is a Kamba country, the Kambas in Githurai 44 and may be Ruiru. Thuo like Kabogo has money and that matters a lot in Juja. Ndicho and others will keep on singing moneybags but that wont help their campaigns. I am not sure how Alice is endowed financially but she seems to be in good hands.

It is difficult to predict who between Alice and Kabogo will be No. 2. Kabogo and the rest of the folks will probably split the Kabete (read Kiambu) votes to Alice's advantage since the Murang'a votes comes handy. She could spring a surprise and get at the top and that will add feathers on PK's cap.

Kabogo is sounding desperate and is attacking Thuo (and Alice) left and right. That shows that he is not in very good hands. He is even accusing Thuo of taking credit of the projects he started and inserting them in his "development booklet".
I dont think he stands a very chance of getting the seat but you never know. I would bet he is will be No. 2 if not three. Ndichu will come a distance 5th if not sixth and I am not even counting him.
