Re: UMUGANDA PICS

Thank you very much Rose for the pictures. It seems to me much more of a Corporate Social responsibility that your university has established - which goes beyond government policy on community involvement of public services/goods. VVM can incorporate such in our activities as part of a strategy to help those under-priviledged in places like Turkana where people are feasting on dogs and donkeys. You see, Kenya is ailing lot and yet those who hail do not real have options. I sometime think that the devolved system we have created will enhance devolved corruption unless we act swiftly and stop these hooligans on their tracks.

Now you see why I am glad that Sonko won the Makadara seat? Even John Kiarie was paid to campaign against the Kenyan JayCee.....

Subject: UMUGANDA PICS

Hi. I have been away for some times. I remember you asked me for some Umuganda pics i have picked a few. This community work does not mean ati cleaning kwa kanju only. You can do it in your institutions, villages, schools or even families if you decide to do so. This is an opportunity where you can discuss the people in need in your community and plan how you can assist them. The pics i have sent to you are from our university where we all came together students, chancellors , vice chancellors , lecturers and all the other workers. This day we were planting flowers in our compound. The next is where we traveled to assist a certain village to plant trees followed by public talk by their chief, and the last is where some wazungus went to build a house for a window who was very poor during Umuganda day. Community work has nothing to do with the authority. the only thing they share in common is the communication. This day everybody is equal junior or senior. It gives people opportunity  to know one another and air their views to their community leaders. In the 5th pc is the chancellor of our university having chat with the local people as they were busy planting trees. The 8th pic is our HR listening to the public lecture by the area chief.
In conclusion, community work can assist the community to identify some important issues and their solutions which they could not have noticed. It can also be used to communicate the messages to our youth. All this requires commitments.
