Burrrrrrreeeeeeeeee Kasbissssssssssssssssaaaaaa. PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION RAISED BY JECTONE NDUNYA TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE. Mine was my personal observation and of course I am entitled to it. In any case I also gave my reasons as to why those ngurunyos from my shaggs will always beat your Kamba ladies in any competition.
You can look for your own "Progressive forum" and pretend that there are no tribes in Kenya.
The issue of Kamba ladies was raised by Jectone-if that is being tribal, please deal with him "progressively"

In the program, Mutahi hypothesised that 'we can kill a messenger but not the message'. He argues that his message was really meant to form a divergent opinion so that debate may heat up. He argues that his divergent opinion has never found any academic contradiction but rather political undertones which led to his column dismissal from the fourth estate.

He also argues that the next general election will be held in March 2013. He then continues to argue that when the president term expires in Dec 2012, the sixth schedule read together with the current constitution creates some form of vacuum.
Sixth schedule 9 (1) The first elections for the president, the National Assembly, the Senate, county assemblies and county governors shall be held at the same time within sixty days after the dissolution of the national assembly at the end of its term.

Walalahoi, when is the end of term for current parliament? Will the next general elections  in 2012 be held in August or will it be March 2013? (Read together with 12(1))

Reuben.

Press Statement: Muungano wa Katiba Kombozi [1 Attachment]

At long last.

Thank you Prince. We knew it from the word go, and we were just waiting for you to come clean as you have done today.

We saw it all when it started; spelling mistakes; multi-choice referendum; qualified YES; YES-YES; Post-ponement; Court cases; and we knew who you were and what you stood for. You were preparing us for this day.

You were never with us on the reform train Brother. You were on a mission in the reform train, and the good thing is that true reformers smoked you out and refused to be confused with your inconsistencies.

I must thank you for coming clean now. This is where you belonged from the word go. And  I want to wish you well in your mission impossible.

As for the true reformers in Kenya, we have never doubted our loyalty to Kenya. We have never betrayed our loyalty to Kenya, and come 4th August 2010, we will all troop to the voting booths to vote YES.

The die is cast, and you are areigned against Kenyans in this gigantic task you have set yourself against.

Welcome to reality.

Peace and blessings Prince....

Muungano wa Katiba Kombozi Press Statement

We, the veterans of the Second Liberation assembled here, in conjunction with all those patriotic citizens who share our vision in civil society, in religious organisation, in professional bodies, in private enterprise, and in all walks of life, are here to formally launch our campaign against the Proposed Constitution of Kenya.

For a long time we have fought for the democratisation of this country, and the enactment of a new democratic dispensation, of which a democratic constitution is a major plank. Unfortunately, the proposed constitution is designed to throw Kenyans off course on the journey to our full emancipation as a free and prosperous people.

The Proposed Constitution of Kenya is a betrayal of the principles and purpose of the Second Liberation Movement. The draft Constitution is not what we had in mind when we put our lives on the line to fight for the liberation of this country and the emancipation of the Kenyan people. Though the draft has a sugar-coating made up of some of the things that we fought for, like an expanded Bill of Rights, it has toxic provisions that threaten the very foundation of the Kenyan State and, hence, negate all the good they represent.

Key among these are the threat of disintegration through reckless devolution and land laws that articulate our ethnic differences and not our similarities. No country in history has survived a decision by its political leadership to organise it not on the progressive basis of equality but on the retrogressive basis of special interests and the differences of its citizens.

Why do we want to throw our beloved country into turmoil? Whose idea is it? And whose interests does it serve?

We are also opposed to the way the campaign for the draft is being conducted. It is misplaced for anybody to traverse the country using all manner of negative adjectives to derogate those on the NO side as unpatriotic anti-reformers and do-no-gooder hypocrites. We are left wondering whether the said YES camp have misconstrued the referendum to be a witch-hunt.

The referendum is not a witch execution where we choose between good and bad guys. It is about democratic choice and, hence, it is unacceptable to think that we can use such undemocratic means to midwife a democratic dispensation. The constitution is about current and future citizens of Kenya ; it's not about President Kibaki, Premier Odinga, or the Cabinet. Nobody is boss or subordinate. We are in this as private and equal citizens.

This is not a Government project. The Government's role is limited to facilitating both sides in the process as an honest broker. If there is reason for one side to use public resources to campaign, the same resources must be availed to the other side in the name of levelling the playing field.

We also strongly object to the deep and partisan involvement of foreign embassies led by the US ambassador Mr. Michael Ranneberger. Their involvement is not just a violation of their mandate, it is an unacceptable attack on our sovereignty and an insult to our intelligence.

From here we are going to hit the ground running to campaign for the rejection of the proposed Constitution in all corners of the Republic of Kenya .

Like you, I have read it in the post, so I have nothing to clarify, never been to this college, but if the information is true as it seems, then it should be condemned by all who knows what tribalism has done to our country.  I just want to know who is responsible such tribal appointments? is it the board or the line ministry? that is why Kenya will never develope!!

Re: HIV VACCINE

Mr Benji,

Well observed. This is not to rule out the effect of the legit issues you've raised -- the whole scourge is complex!  But, to me, the main problem with this menace (in our country and in many parts of the world) is the difficulty in the management of behavior change -- this is the hardest part, I think! People preach one thing and they do exactly the contrary! As we know, research studies have cogently shown that HIV/AIDS (plus its opportunistic infections) is significantly associated with poverty, literacy, and many other socio-ecominc factors -- which hit, badly, the least developed countries (LDCs), more than the West.  This said, the effective use of protective "gadgets" (re condoms etc) also varies significantly across the globe and the LDCs, I believe, play very poorly on the majority of these areas and thus, the escalating prevalent rates.

For example, look how well Uganda did in the early 80s in the fight against HIV/AIDS re advocating awareness ...they obtained nearly 99% rate (as a role model) -- the HIV/AIDS prevalent rates drop tremendously.  People used to wear tags with a "I'm HIV Positive" label -- that scared people to their spines -- behavior improved (those days).  But what do we see in the same country now? The numbers are astonishingly skyrocketing! The same is happening all over the world, especially in the LDCs. I was surprised one day as we did HIV/AIDS sentinel surveillance, surveying some commercial sex workers-CSWs (aka prostitutes) in their hideouts (brothels) around Kenya in the mid 90s.  Majority of them (whose clients were mainly track-drivers) said they would rather get HIV/AIDS than get Malaria! Reason was that former gives a window of time for you to enjoy life while the former kills you in hrs...what a response! This is the time when some strategies were laid out by groups (in the fight against HIV/AIDS) in the country devised a strategy to put some of the CSWs into small income generating projects and monitored them -- a lot did very well and stopped the CSW business. So, to me, if a method can be found to help foster behavior change, that would have a positive impact in mitigating HIV/AIDS.

I must say that as a young person who lived in Kenya my first 20 years, then in the States over 10 years I was always astounded by the fact that in the West people can be very promiscious and I even remember seeing so many 14 year olds in Chicago pushing trolleys with children. Basically children raising children. But with the great lifestyles, fast life, big money and creature comforts I must say AIDs was but a rumour.  Statistics might show an infected rate of 8% but still this the USA is a country of over 300 million most dating widely, high divorce rates, high child birth etc.
Meanwhile in Africa, where values and religion are embraced and people will not even hold hands on the street guess what AIDS is the main topic, front and centre wreaking havoc.
There must be some sort of conspiracy and the whole thing about vaccines and how the medical devolpment in Kenya was quicklt shrouded in secrecy is absurd.
Even with education on prophylactics and condom distribution AIDs has still managed to wipe out entire villages in Africa.
The West cannot be trusted.

HIV vaccine:

I hope this is a fact. There were so many viral killer diseases which really killed alot of people some times back but when the vaccines against these killer diseases were discovered, some were completely eliminated like small pox. Other viral killer diseases which used to clear children in minutes are measles and others like polio which used to leave so many children crippled. Currently we are fighting with viral sexually transmitted  diseases like hepatitis B and HIV which can also be transmitted from the mother to the baby during delivery if the obstetricians, midwives and nurses are not careful. Its easier to be infected by hepatitis B than HIV because of the nature of its virus but people are less  scared of hepatitis B than HIV simply because there is vaccine. If the pregnant mother is found to be hep B positive during pregnancy, the doctors and midwives ensure the baby receives hep B  vaccine and immunoglobulins(antibodies)within the first few hours after delivery . Let me make it more clear for non medics. Vaccines stimulates  the body form the antibodies(askaris )  which help the body fight germs. the vaccines are disease specific and each vaccine will help the body form antibodies against that particular disease eg measles vaccine will help the body form antibodies against measles infection. The vaccines don't work straight away, most vaccines take one month to stimulate  the body develop antibodies against that disease. This is why mothers are advised to take back their  babies for next vaccine in one month. If the vaccine is repeated before the given time, it becomes a waste. If the mother is late to take the baby for vaccine, its better for her to take the baby later than earlier.
What is immunoglobulins. These are ready made antibodies against certain diseases and when given they act within a short time to kill that particular microorganisms(germs). This is why a baby born of hep B positive mother is given both vaccine and immunoglobulins at the same time.
According to kenyan daily nation of 12th july, there is an article talking about a possibility of development of HIV vaccine which may turn out to be reasonably effective. Read the attached article if you have time

Re: *** Jesus and Mary Magdalene had two Children - TWINS

Reuben,

The authour himself of Da vinci code himself listed the book as
fiction. In other word it neither based on fact or evidence. How
people refer to it almost as biblical truth is shocking to me n even
him. It's a tale for entertainment n profit. People are so gallible
they would rather believe in more astrological impossibility like the
big bang 12 million yrs ago with no evidence that Christ and God
almighty.

Re: RIGHT OF REPLY to Sunday Nation

This is a must read. Congrats Bro.

RIGHT OF REPLY

In the wake of the Matuga debacle, I am instructed by common sense to highlight the problem with our politics and the root cause of our failing leadership.

The Kenyan electorate for the most part remains a misguided and ill informed one.   Looking for all the wrong things in the wrong places, voters fail to ask the right questions and hire the right candidates.  We have become a nation of sorry choosers, always suffering acute buyer's remorse.

On the morning Mwakwere wins in Matuga, we wake up to news of voter's card buying in Lugari.  No prize for guessing who the culprit buying voters cards is.  Poverty, desperation and misinformation have led to confusion and disillusionment of our people.  That an elitist, arrogant non performer like the Matuga MP can be reelected shows you how far we are and how deeply ingrained in us the culture of mediocrity is.

But there is a section of Kenyans, -a minority though they are- that are about a different agenda.  Most are youthful leaders in various sectors from corporate to the NGO world and Civil Society.  They are about and embrace wholesome change.  You can expect them to be loudly and proudly saying YES in social places, championing the passage of a new constitution and progressive change.   They are educated, enlightened and secure in many ways, never exhibiting the phobias and fears being stoked by the church.   These young minds are the antithesis of KANU and yesteryear, appreciating politics and public service as a privilege to serve not a right to exploit and extort.  And this is where Ahmed Nasir got it all wrong in his article last week.  That he thinks the protests in Nairobi last week against MPs went on so smoothly because it's a "well oiled government machine" means the winds of change are not sensed by some, even journalists and lawyers of the stature of Naser.

The good news is this progressive voice is finding resonance with many Kenyans, and is thus growing fast.  The fact of the matter is that most Kenyans are struggling every day to make a living.  The numbers speak for themselves.  55% of our country lives in poverty.  Our struggling economy has a weak record of creating jobs.  And 12% live in fabulous opulence.

Our hospitals are in dire need of medicine, qualified staff, equipment  and resources. Our road network currently under construction and repair badly needs expansion while the conditions that police work under are pitiful to say the least.  The argument that parliamentarians have mortgages and help their constituents does not wash.   That their pay is very large vis-à-vis Kenya's small and weak economy is the crux of the matter.

The MPs of the 10th parliament are exhibiting an absurd lack of sensitivity to the plight of most Kenyans and are indifferent to the suffering of the masses.  Why are they behaving like the members from the 9th parliament?  Well we have been making choices the wrong way as a country.  Politics in Kenya has become about big money and little morals.  We don't ask where people have gotten wealth and we don't care. It is enough if they show up in a new Range Rover and tell us a story.  On their part, MPs many of whom have never held down a job or done business want to go to parliament to become rock stars.  Not to serve.  They go into leadership for all the wrong reasons.  To drive a big car, get allowances and work few hours a day.  Now with these warped values, is it any wonder that there is such a disconnect between the electorate and the leadership?  How many Kenyans given a chance to go into Bunge would behave differently? We need to search ourselves as a Nation and reorient our path.

During the Carbonari- Italian revolution of 1848- the leader Mazzini believed in and fought for autonomy from Austria encouraging hard work and Nationalism.  As a leader, he lived in humble abode and spent most of his salary donating to hospitals, encouraging excellence and preaching resilience.  Today Italian goods are top quality, never mediocre and that's not by accident.

Section 104, the recall clause provision in the new draft constitution provides a key tool for the departure of Kenya from electoral and governance mediocrity.  If a member is sitting idle and not furthering the agenda and interests of those who elected and sent him to Nairobi then surely he must be recalled and a replacement sent forth.  That is accountability and it's about time we stopped giving our leaders a blank five year cheque!

So the anger you see in the street protests, peaceful though they are is not from a 'well oiled government machine'.  It is from a generation of Kenyans that is philosophically opposed to the hijacking of public resources for selfish gain.  These are noises from a youthful, energetic crop eager for complete change and a fresh start.  You will see this march throughout the country and the message is simple: We disapprove the conduct of our MPs, it is shameful to say the least.  This is the beginning of great changes in our thinking, our psyche and our politics.

Coming to a town near you.
