Carl,
I find it absurd that some kenyans could hold a press conference to justify the invitation of Bashir to to our country. It was out of our own sovereign decision that we signed the Rome stature establishing the ICC. If the ICC finds reasons to issue warrant of arrest for Bashir, we should comply. It is simply as that!
Let Bashir go to the Hague, listen to the charges brought against him and defend himself against the charges. This is the only way we can be convinced of his innocence. The AU arguments that only African leaders are being hounded to the Hague is no justification for genocide in Africa. We must use ICC to protect the lives of our people in Africa.

Subject: Re: El Bashir.
@ UoN.... whatever you are, you have no idea what you are talking about when you equate the indictment of Bashir to oil and claim the man is not a criminal. You are simply portraying the ignorance always embodied in the arguments of radical islamists, to whom all explanations for any crime committed by an extremist is about "Israel and the west" or "Oil," nothing more, nothing less.
You display your ignorance about everything including sudan oil discoveries.
You simply have no clue of what it means to be in Sudan, whether the south or Darfur, you use words like "intellectual" to appear knowledgeable, but nay brother, you are not...! You are like those same "Western specialists" who recommend solutions to African problems at their desks in New York or London.
What Oil are you talking about? What sane man can send helicopter gunships to drive out a population so that he can clear the area for drilling oil? Animals, women and children were killed, murder in cold blood as Bashir's gunships drove out un-armed villagers in the areas East and south of Bentiu ( Areas around Nhialdiu and mankien), I was there in those villages, some kenyans who were working for WFP were almost killed by the gunships as they ran for dear life,.
The UN security from OLS spent two weeks searching for the kenyans who had to walk for over a week, running away from the scene of the massacre and got lost in wilderness. Finally they were found emaciated and sick.
Brother, you talk like that because you probably are enjoying the comforts of freedoms in a nairobi office, you can issue statements in support of Bashir like a politician, because you are safe, you are sure no one is gonna send militias called "Murahlin" or "Janjaweed" on horseback in the night to kill your men, rape your women and girls and burn you houses. No, it cannot happen to you because, whatever your religion, you are in kenya and can demonstrate to support Bashir. But if you were a Luo in Baau southern sudan, or a Dinka in Marialbai, southern Sudan, you would suicide bomb that kenyan celebration of constitution because of the face of Bashir.
You would remember the horsemen who would kill do all these things to you at their pleasure. Those who would burn your villages as their escorted the train to the south, those that would leave Aweil town in the middle of the night to pounce on your villages around Aroyo or Chelkou to kill and plunder and rape.
Bashir, belongs to the hangmans noose. simple and clear.
As for the AU, please save us the crap.. who seats in the AU? Look at their CVs and tell us who of them is not liable for some sort of crime of impunity and dictatorship in their own country? Remember what one Mugabe told the AU when they wanted sanction him for the events in his country? He simply said that "Let the one who is not guilty among you cast the first stone", and none had the b... to do it. Apart from Kikwete, and Kufuor, most of the others have their hands bloody as hell, so when they pretend to take a middle ground, they are simply covering up for themselves.
It was bad manners to invite Bashir to spoil our party, simple and clear.

How then do you explain the deaths and the human suffering in Darfur? What would you if some murderer went to your home and called all your brothers, sisters and parents? Would you let them off the hook that easily? I think somebody should stop being silly.
While we may appreciate AU dialogue and engagement approach, it is no substitute to justice. Bashir should not have been invited to our fete, period.--On Sun, Aug 29, 2010 at 11:58 AM, UoN Nairobi <sojmap2007@gmail.com> wrote:
To begin with, Kikwete was not at the function, Bashir is not Mohamed but Omar. It is unfortunate that most Kenyans see thigs from a Western perspective to become the potential "western parrots". As intellectuals we have to analyse the Darfur case carefully and avoid falling into the quagmire. I certainly know that many of you will be furious but, let's get our facts right. The was between Bashir and the West is due to Oil. The Sudan oil was discovered by an American company and due to their exploitation tendecies Bashir gave the tender to a Chinese firm. As intellectuals, i ask guys to make thei own conclusions. Do we remember saddam we were told he has WMD - Weapons of Mass Destruction, but until he was nyogwaed by the Americans te WMD had not been discovered.

The Sudan leader was in Kenya today - one of the dignitaries to witness the promulgation of the new constitution. Meanwhile, Mohamed el Bashir is still a wanted man by the ICC for genocide in Darfur.
As signatories to the ICC Laws and given that our constitution (old and new) has included ratified international laws as part of our governing law,
(a) should we have invited el Bashir at all?
(b) while here, were we not under obligation to arrest him and hand him over to the Hague and
(c) what then is our foreign policy with regard to Darfur?
Anyone?
