Family 45. (1) The family is the natural and fundamental unit of society and the necessary basis of social order, and shall enjoy the recognition and protection of the State. (2) Every adult has the right to marry a person of the opposite sex, based on the free consent of the parties. [Can someone tell one Cyrus Jirongo this?]
I have chosen that part very deliberately. It gives us the insight to Chapter 4 on the Bill of Rights.
This Chapter is supreme. It gives us the liberties we have sought for for so long. It gives us the right to life, freedom, association, movement, property, labour relations, healthy environment and land ownership [Elijah, are you there?], economy, social rights, family and consumer rights amongst several rights that Mzee Moi denied us during his 24 years at the helm.
My, the older citizens are not left out either. Can someone tell this to these Youth for Kanu operatives?
What else would we need? Do we want to listen to the people who made us live an oppressed life? Do we want to live a life like in servitude? Do we want to give in to the people who ruined our economy? Do you?
The Bill of Rights is such a progressive piece that should make all of us vote YES on 4th August 2010.
Or, what do you say? Let us hear you out.
