National Youth Convention Movement - Regional Constitution Meetings

Greetings The National Youth Convention was established in 1997 under the auspices of Youth Agenda to act as a sparkling plug to set in motion a process that will catapult the Youth of Kenya from the periphery of political and policy realms to a more influential, dignified and rightful position in society.   The conventions are held to enable the youth chart the national youth agenda. In 1998 the National Youth Movement was launched but amidst challenges the same was given life by 1300 delegates who gathered for the fourth convention held on Saturday 20th day of September 2008 as the Forum and Movement of the Patriotic Youth of Kenya; with the objective of transforming Kenya into a democratic, just and prosperous Nation. One of the resolutions of  NYC IV was a demand for an all Inclusive, participatory and democratic constitutional making process. "We the young people who constitute the majority of our nation and who shall be governed under the forth-coming constitution must fully participate in the making of that constitution". In December members of the movement participated in the constitution making process  by interrogating the draft and  submitting a  detailed and all inclusive memorandums to the Committee of Experts. It has come a time when members of the provinces represented by key leaders must play a critical role in participating and setting the regional and national agenda. As such Youth Agenda is coordinating Regional NYCs in four provinces.  This will be part of Civic education, Scenario Building and resolutions of the next Agenda 4 resolve. All members are invited to participate in these meetings that will be held in the following provinces. 1.       Rift Valley at Kericho Hall on 19th June 2010 2.       Central Province Muranga District on 26th July 3.       Coast Province – Taveta/ Voi, on 22nd July 4.       North Eastern- Garissa on 28th July In keeping in line with the resolutions of the 2008 NYC-IV of the need to institutionalize the NYC to the regional and grassroots levels; we are thus calling on young people within the NYC and the wider National Youth Movement to volunteer and assist in the planning and holding of these regional meetings. It is our hope that the meetings shall provide the platform to offer objective insight and discourse on the proposed law and help the young people to make informed decisions at the referendum and by extension promote peace, cohesion and nationhood after the referendum no matter the outcome.
