Re: Edward Mulindwa; Clean up Nairobi- A great launch

Huyu Mjamaa anaeitwa Mulindwa ni "Mdomo Baggy" He dont know whether he is coming or going. Anyways, there are many like him in Society. But bright Kenyans who have chosen to do something instead of just waiting, should and must go ahead in moving the City forward. Mulindwa thinks in terms of "Them" versus "Me". He is not the type to own up to anything. So he is expecting "They", the City Council to come and clean his toilet in his house. And if it is Dirty he may Blame Kisia or summon Majiwa. How unfortunate!!!!!

Bwana Mulindwa

You dont need to talk whichever way you want to Mr Oketch. According the the photos i saw he was not alone and am sure he never made this decision alone. Would you mind to go to the city council and ask the mayor all these questions and tell him to refund your money if you so wish. Please Mr Mulindwa, give kenyans peace. Other countries do the same. So why is it an issue to you. Remember we are not in the developed countries and i wish you were born the time of Kenyatta when there were Harambees. All these have been forgotten except for the wedding where we help man marry as if he is being forced to. If you can do this for a man who is earning money, why not your country? Anyway that's my opinion.

Mulindwa,

How does it pain you that we came together to help clean Nairobi?

We have made some concise decision and every 3rd Saturday of the month, we will be coming out to clean Nairobi.

This is a voluntary affair for those who are willing. We are not holding a gun to anybody's head demanding their participation.

If you feel offended by what we are doing, there is little I can do. I personally hold people like you with a lot of contempt.

I might not engage you in this kind of discussion any further. I am very alive to some truths; we have few people like you who would rather we failed. But we have very many patriotic people, not necessarily Kenya, who are really motivated by the small things that we do.

I will go with the many who feel some positiveness in what we do. And I will refuse to be derailed by the people like you who have nothing to offer in the process. Yours are a kin to soar grapes.

Honestly, how could the UN come up with a world environment day if we could have such myopic and condescending attitudes?

Peace to you brother/sister or whatever you are.

Odhiambo T Oketch

I did not say it is new and created/manufactured in Nairobi, in fact I said it was raising its head in Toronto right here and we fought it. But it is the second sentence that gets to me, you state "We know where we are coming from, we know our role in making the city dirty as well, and as we demand for service delivery from the Council, some of us have chosen to partner with them in reclaiming the lost glory despite us being tax payers." End quote.

Oh really so now you are partners in making the city dirty. Oketch what else are you partners in Kenya council? We pile up shit in sewage systems are we  also going to fix them? The power supply is not running at par for we use it are we going to fix it too? Where do you start from in counting that responsibility and where do you cut it off? And the answer is very simple, you don't care and you do not regard your tax payers with respect, a very reason you only limited them on collecting garbage and sweeping city streets. It tells the entire story on how you take your city cleaners to be. Like I stated in my very first comment on the issue, this is a clear manifestations of poor leadership gimmicks, and what you need is some un trained Nairobi resident getting hurt while doing a city job and you get sued for damages.

Oketch get up and do the job the tax payer pays you for or turn around and help them to pay it to.

Edward,

Clean ups of cities by citizen is not new only to Nairobi. Many towns have gone that root and the people have appreciated.

We know where we are coming from, we know our role in making the city dirty as well, and as we demand for service delivery from the Council, some of us have chosen to partner with them in reclaiming the lost glory despite us being tax payers.

I would rather I be a responsible tax payer than grip on sour grapes.

And mark you, I chair a team that has been evaluating their performance.

Nairobi people

What does the taxes you pay do? You know I really get pissed off with these clearly manifestations of poor leadership gimmicks when politicians come to the people and put their burden on our shoulders, if you want the population to do what you the politicians are given money to do stop collecting the taxes and the people will clean up their city. And what really gets to me is to high lighten it as a responsible thing for the citizenries to do. They had started it too here in Toronto and we refused it. It is a sham and dictatorial. Tell me what my taxes do then I will replace it. Or come with the money you have saved for I did what it was supposed to do so now you have it in the city saving account, you simply cannot collect the taxes and I do what it is supposed to do. And what is next? Citizens carrying patients on their backs instead of driving them in ambulances?

Geez people wake up !!!!

[Attachment(s) from odhiambo okecth included below]

The launch of Clean up Nairobi was a big success yesterday at 1st Avenue Eastleigh.

The occasion was graced by His Worship the Mayor of Nairobi and he urged all residents to join hands with the City Council of Nairobi in addressing the environmental menace choking Nairobi in the form of garbage disposed of anyhow.

The launch was also addressed by Odhiambo T Oketch- Chair to CCNSET, Mr. Hassan Gullet- Chairman Eastleigh Business District Association, Eng Christine Ogut- Director of Environment at the City Council of Nairobi, Cllr Charles Atula- Chairman Environment Department at the City Council of Nairobi, area Cllr Robo and the area Chief Christine Dimba.

This was the beginning of our wish to reclaim the glory of Nairobi and this has been well captured in the maxim that we have settled for; Reclaiming the Green City in the Sun.

On behalf of CCNSET, I want to thank the general public who came out all across Nairobi to make this day a success. I also want to extend our appreciation to the following institutions for the support they gave to us to make this day a success;

  • Eastleigh Business District Association
  • Linora Construction
  • Magnate Ventures Ltd
  • Soliton Telmec Ltd
  • Day to Day Care Ltd

We want to thank His Worship the Mayor for gracing the launch and planting a commemorative tree for the launch at Pumwani Hospital. We also want to thank the Deputy Town Clerk Mr Omar Abdi, City Treasuer Mr Ngugi, Procurement Director Mr. Kohogo, MOH Dr Ayisi, PRO Mr. Marube for joing Eng Ogut in solidarity for this occasion.

It was a show of unity from the Council and we would like to see all Directors shaking Nairobi in the next such cleaning next month.

I must thank my collegues at CCNSET who made time for this great launch; Ms Petronila Nafula, Mr. Steve Waweru, Pst Benerd Mutuku and Mr. John Kihiu. You proved that we can make a team and help move the Council to the next level. I would also want to make special mention of my colleague from the Association of Citizens against Corruption Mr. Mark Korir; thanks for your presence and support.

Thanks to all those who responded to our call by taking part, by supporting us and even just by remaing with us in solidarity at the comfort of your homes.

Let us join the Council in reclaiming the lost glory of Nairobi as we demand for service delivery from them.

Peace and blessings to us all.
