May you please favour me with the list of the 24 tribes that Mhe. Oparanya used in the 2009 census exercise? All along I had argued that there were 26 tribes in Kenya, including the Abasuba (who happen to be practically Luos) and Digo (not part of Miji Kenda).

You are right on this and I would ask Kibaki to fire Oparanya or better still invite Bashir during Oparanya's firing. Research is never done using variable parameters though am not a researcher myself but simply put you can not walk into my house and ask me if i take fish and ugali daily then walk to my neighbor and ask him/her if he takes fish and rice daily then wake up kesho to tell people that you have found out that in that particular vitongoji duni people have a liking for rice and fish or vice varsa.The same query has to be put across to the people being interviewed for census purposes

I am leading a call for ODM leadership to demonstrate a show of accountability by firing Oparanya whose conduct of the National census demonstrates a clear lack of commitment, professionalism and concern for national resource utility demanded of his position.Oparanya decided to use varied parameters in a research that require uniformity. He separated Luo from Abasuba and amalgamated Bunyore, Samia, Teso, Marama, and even Bukusu calling them Luhyia knowing very well that this is not a tribe.He went further and brought together Elgeyo,Marakwet,Nandi, and even Kipsigis with many more to call them tribes,Further more he took 7 Mijikenda tribes and called them one tribe.The fact is that in any research the parameters must be the same, if you are amalgamating for resource distribution then you amalgamate all i.e. GEMA,LUO,ABALUHYIA AND KALENJIN not one and separate others. Oparanya is telling Kenyans that Kakamega County and Bungoma county have more populations than Mombasa City and Kisumu Cities what cheek!! Where are they living in those surbaban towns and what do they do !! He must have resorted to the use of electoral registers for population statistics in cities!!!Then what was the need for the census did he misuse the funds?Finally He did a shoddy job in 18 Districts which led him to cancel results; thereby denying legitimate Kenyans in far flung areas of our NEP the benefit of knowing their numbers! what cheek what incompetence!! Oparanya should resign his post to save this country the embarassment of having committed Billions to work that was shodilly done. George,I think that would be the correct figure bearing in mind that the previous count had Meru, Embu, Mbeere and Tharaka as 23%. There would be very few reasons for one community especially with PNU controlling resources to "undercount" some groups. They know that resources would be given as per the pop. size.The only group missing are those in the diaspora. Kisiis, Kikuyus and Luos have a sizeable group in the diaspora and this may change the dynamics if it is true there are over 1 million souls abroad.

Don't you think the Kikuyu population should be more than 6 millions, my thought is that the kikuyu census given was only from central province and omitted was those kikuyus hawkers in Kisumo, kisii, mpeketoni (coast province) and elsewhere in Kenya. So with sincere profound this census needs to be revised without deception.
