BB Tx Planning Engineer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Core Network Planning and Engineering within the Technical Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

BB Tx PLANNING ENGINEER
REF: TECHNICAL-BBTPE-SEPTEMBER-2010

Reporting to the Senior Manager-Transport Network Planning and Support, the holder of the position will be responsible for modeling, planning, designing, optimization and project management of reliable transmission network systems in support of timely backbone transmission requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modeling and planning of transmission/transport systems network and respective capacity planning and analysis;
  • Take a lead role in the development and application of packet and cell based transport in the Safaricom network;
  • Project management of transmission/transport projects from inception to handover and the management of transmission systems/equipment suppliers;
  • Ensure equipment, space and power availability for planned systems;
  • Liaise with implementation department during site surveys and visits to ensure timely project completion in accordance to set timeframes;
  • Approval of transmission/transport designs and plans for required bandwidth for projects from leased transmission capacity vendors;
  • Perform transmission trials, systems parameters checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies into the network;

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering;
  • 3 years experience in a telecommunications environment of which 1 year must have been involved in installations /commissioning and planning of major telecommunications projects especially in the transmission field;
  • Analytical, trouble shooting and problem solving skills;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;

SMC Engineer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Safaricom Business Technical department within the Technical Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

SMC ENGINEER
RE: TECHNICAL-SMCE-SEP-2010

Reporting to the SMC Manager; the holder of the position will provide technical support for fixed data customers to solve customer technical queries within defined SLA to retain and generate more revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure troubleshooting and solving tickets incidents within SLA and perform root cause analysis of all reported incidents;
  • Contribute to technical knowledge base system by documenting solutions and resolved;
  • Conduct troubleshooting, performance monitoring and problem solving of all customer equipments to ensure smooth operations;
  • Report regularly on customer SLA performance and document solutions;
  • Continuously work with the departments to streamline internal processes and integration for efficient service delivery;
  • Generate of fault reports and status reports and communicate them to SMC/NOC on trends and field observations for action;
  • Research for solutions to open issues and perform continuous training and empowerment of SMC and customers;

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics engineering from a recognized institution or equivalent;
  • At least 1 years technical support experience for an ISP, Telecommunications  services  company;
  • Conversant with current LAN/WAN technologies and Wireless Platforms (3G, WIMAX, Fibre, IP MPLS), CCNA is a must CCNP, CCIP, CCSP, MCSE, RHCA is an added advantage;

RPO Engineer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Nairobi Regional Network Department within the Technical Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

RPO ENGINEER - NAIROBI REGION
RE: TECH-RPOENR-SEP-2010

Reporting to the Senior Regional Network Planning Manager-Nairobi Regional Network, the holder of the position will monitor performance of radio network and recommend corrective measures to ensure optimum performance of radio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations on frequency plan changes and participate in site planning and release of nominal;
  • Participate in preparation of capacity upgrade plans and release of integration parameters;
  • Perform investigative drive tests and resolve escalated/detected customer concerns;
  • Manage site configuration databases, heights and maps topology;

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics;
  • Proficient in use of radio planning tools such as ATOLL, ENTERPRISE and MAPINFO;
  • Advanced knowledge in MS office application;
  • Knowledge in RDBMS, programming language e.g. VB, C++;

Billing Engineer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the IT Business Services Department within the Information Technology Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

BILLING ENGINEER
RE: IT-SBE-SEP-2010

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Billing, the holder of the position will be responsible for the Billing Services function within IT Business Services Department. The main duties in this role will include; Change management, System maintenance, System faulting, Process improvement, Bill production and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Systems support by ensure rating and billing service availability;
  • Change Management - take part in billing software upgrade and configuration changes, including update of the configuration database;
  • Implementation of new billing services and system expansion from evaluation of new services to final acceptance;
  • Resolve faults on all equipments and services under billing responsibility; Escalate faults to supplier if needed and follow up until resolution;
  • System maintenance - perform maintenance routines to ensure all billing systems are up and running at all times;
  • Ensure all billing systems are secure;
  • Internal and external process improvement;
  • Knowledge transfer to first line maintenance.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Telecommunication Engineering.
  • At least 3-4 years working experience in IT/Billing function.
  • Certification and knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (e.g. Oracle, MySQL, Informix);
  • Certification and knowledge of UNIX based systems (e.g. HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, and Linux);
  • Intermediate knowledge/experience in Shell scripting/programming;
  • At least 2 years working knowledge of Telecommunications Billing service management, preferably on Oracle BRM (Portal Infranet/Pipeline);
  • A working knowledge of service provisioning and fulfillment, mediation, interconnect billing service management preferable in a telecommunications environment is an added advantage.
