George,
People do not necessarily need very good academic grades to succeed in life. If you look around, many successful persons- rich with assets- were hardly academic geniuses. A visit to our high level academic institutions will also reveal academicians struggling with life too. Academic success is largely due to intelligent quotient-IQ while success especially in business and general life requires both emotional intelligence-EQ and social intelligence-SQ
Great scientists historically were not academic geniuses either. Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, etc. Charles Darwin drop out of medical school. The Forbes richest- in-the-world list adorns college drop outs: Bill Gates, warren Buffet, Mukesh Ambani, Lawrence Ellison, Eike Batista. Success is not always about academics.
I have a friend/relative who drop out of school-we happened to be in the same school- after form four. The clever ones or we thought so then, proceeded to 'A' level and subsequently to the university to pursue some of the courses reserved for the select few. This guy today, despite his failing and dropping out of school, is a billionaire and growing richer. He is not doing drugs. No, he is in the international genuine import and export business and real estate. It will take me another life to catch up with him, if I ever will. Occasionally when he is in town and I have a chance to dine with him- well this chance is rare too- he chide my friends how brilliant I was in school.
Back to the lady who looks and sounds clever but failed in her two attempts at school. She could be a victim of condition called 'Attention deficit hyperactive disorder', a condition that is marked by as the name suggests attention deficit and sometimes hyperactivity. The victims of this condition which starts in child hood, may appear very attentive and hyperactive even in class, but they flank exams. The teachers are likely to miss the reason and wonder why they fail. They have natural flare for extra-curriculum activities like music, dance athletics and other sports. The other possibility is that she is trying to cover up her failure and live in denial. This cover up is likely to interfere with her ability to develop social and emotional intelligence rendering her society misfit if counseling is not timely.
My thots
Good pple.
there are good people in this forum. pls help me to help a friend.
The lady repeated her form four level exams but flunked miserably D- (MINUS).
The lady sounds very sharp and one wonders what happened to her. The flip side is that the Dad is a scholar who thinks that the minimum threshold in life is a college degree! In fact, she is the only one among her siblings without one.
This lady feels rejected and frowned upon by the family members and can fall for anything due to her vulnerability and sense of rejection.
Question, what can be done to this lady to boost her self esteem? She can do very well on on-job training but which one? I still believe that a failure in education is not a failure in life.

Yes, makadara people spoke, but what did they say?!!! sonko pounced on a people at their weakest point ie poverty, desperation and illiteracy among others! DONT JUDGE ME PLEASE. Good pple,
i watched this sonko guy on k24 and i still maintain that his case was a political accident! he has no clear policy and can hardly express himself . all he wants to do is to donate his salary! this is not leadership but populism. i maintain that a good leader should not offer private solutions to public problems. we need people with clear policies to be put in place for posterity.for how long will he feed the people of makadara on his salary?!
secondly, who is sonko and what is the source of his wealth? IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WEALTHY PEOPLE, GO TO THE TAX MAN. How much has sonko paid in taxes. is he the owner of those pick-pocket infested noisy mini-buses operated by swash-bucklers devoid of any respect for traffic laws and human decency?
being a young person does not mean that you should not be scrutinized for holding a public office. i have nothing personal against sonko but there are certain minimum requirements we must expect from our leaders, otherwise Kenyans in their collective "wisdom" can fill parliament with windbags who have nothing but their wealth to offer.

I want to subscribe to the topic"Being young doesn't mean being pro-change".
I once had an opportunity to prepare and interview a former CKRC Commissioner Pastor Ayonga Senior for and on behalf of IGAA-K (a professional group).
I placed before him one question that read;-
Its often said that youths are leaders of tomorrow and it appears that the octogenarians seems to grow stronger by each day.
His answer was that you are not always young.Yesterday you were a baby, today a young man, tomorrow will be in the old age - do something today.
We usually talk of change, but do we define the change we want!
How do we quantify the changes already made!
Do we have the grasp of the society's issues!
Now friends, its constitutional and we have the numbers, why cant we have young men and of course women taking all elective posts and bring the much talked of change.
One major change i want is to elect a person without giving handouts.is that possible, unless i don't understand what change is.

The makadara By-election was no the only one held two weeks ago.We had the Juja and Starehe.the politics of money is not going anywhere any tine soon.Sonko was within every right to vie and won fairly and squarely. Many exepected Ndolo to win and since he didn't they are crying foul.I didn't know sonko and i never heard of him before. However, he seems to relate to the reality of what faces the people of makadara. The persona and demeanor speaks for itself.Sonko is Real.He dines and wines with the people and he can as well be called a man of the people.I believe in this man.He may be empty headed. But we have alot of learned empty headed people inthis forum.

Christine You are right to an extent.
But you are missing the issues. The issue is not age but our politics.. Kenya's Politics. Let us not get our anger vented on the youth now.. please.
After the Labour Party in the UK has just elected Ed Miliband- 40 years old; the lesson to learn from there is that our politics are wrong here. We never believe in organizations, we do politics around individuals. We have missed for 50 years and Yes we are not about to fix it. The constitution offers a great opportunity but we must not miss the point.
For me the Q remains: How come PLO has not prosecuted any one since he has been at KACC on corruption, money laundering, name it? How come no party get deregistered yet they break the law? How come How politics remains the same: Money, violence, sexism, content free?
On the last item: What was the content difference btn Ndolo, Sonko and Wathika? Ok so who of the three is not a suspect of dubious money, corruption etc. Christine name your clean man in Makadara.
These are the issues but let us not divert the nation into villifying the youth. Or the older members of our nation simply because of age. The spirit of positive change is to be found in youth. Give as many examples as you want of the wrong youthful politicians in the land but for every example of a great and change minded leader who is old today that you give, you will remember that they were more change driven when they were young than today. They have simply remained consistent.
Let me attempt. Why is it that when old corrupt guys get elected it does not receive so much scrutiny as when young misadventourous ones get elected. How come the re-election of Mwakwere did not receive so much criticism as Mbuvi Sonko's?
It is because People expect young people to be change driven and ethical, clean, accountable and Mbuvi does not seem to meet fit this bill. So then we must try more younger politicians because the expectations on them to perform are higher.
But Before you condemn the people of Makadara I beg that you listen to them a little more clearly without your pre-conceived judgment. The youth are associated with change. And change means that some one stands for either a different policy or a different style. What would the election of Ndolo or Wathika have helped the people of Makadara with by the way? The people wanted some different style not policies and that is exactly the thing about change. Change is always not substantive. It is even about form. Sadly
I urge Kenyans to try many more younger politicians in principle. If they miss content, they are likely to get innovativeness and versatility. Christine, Raila was not as conservative as he is today 20 years ago if you remember. Age has made him such a conservative who even supports the Provincial administration and even does not see the problem with Ruto being in the cabinet. Now he is old and embraces anything that can give him power.
I am embarrassed by Mbuvi but my criticism of him is not about his age. I think age gives him the freedom to try new things. What concerns me is the fact that he can not explain where he gets all the money that he has. And that brings me to ask. How come no one has prosecuted this guys who walk around with Money bags? Will PLO do something?
Your recommendations need tightening. Kenya's problem is the lack of a democratic and revolutionary party. We have a long way to go. But the New constitution offers a fabulous opportunity.
I am happy Safina ran only clean candidates in Bomachoge, Shinyalu, Juja. We could not get any one to run in Makadara or Starehe so we rejected all requests.

Some people think that just being youth means change. This is not necessarily true. Some Kenyan Youth leaders have been so dissapointing. There are youth in Kenya who have been elected and have been worse than the wazees. Take for example the earlier Danson Mungatana, someone like Mbugua of kamkunji, someone like Joseph Kutuny and many more including Livondo. So as we think youth, we must scrutinise the kind of youth we want for change. Sonko seems very empty when it comes policy and truth be told he didnt win because of his policies of change but he literally bought the seat.
The Youth have the greatest opportunity in 2012 to get into office-be it at the county level or at the national government level and bring in the change that they have been waiting for, for so long but WE MUST ELECT THE YOUTH WHO ARE PRO-CHANGE not just any other youth and I believe we have many of such youth in Kenya. The only means for Kenyans to elect pro-change youth is for them to offer themselves as candidates at the General elections and more so educate the populace that buying votes doesnt equal to a development conscious leader. Thats why the people of Makadara got it all wrong when they allowed themselves to be bought with meat, money and beer.
