Re: Action Committee- ALL MEN

Rose, those are the kind of mindsets we have advocated against for years. The kind that says that women are their own enemies. This has been preached by men for generations and some women have gone ahead and preached the same and even internalised the myth. Thats why i was shocked when u said that you dont think women should be in the committee. If something is said often, it becomes true. Beware power of the toungue!

Edla. I agree with you to some extent. However women need to talk in one voice. Women for a long time have behaved "man baby". This behavior is what has mislead women completely. For example, men will support one another married, divoced, widowed or not married. What do we see in women? If a woman is married she will be totally on the side of men and having very low opinion of single ladies. The other day i got some insults from ladies just for saying something positive about Margaret Wanjiru instead of Kamanda. I never received anything negative from any man but i could see if some women got me they could have eaten me alive. They were so bitter with me. Go back to the forum issues, anytime a woman gets a problem the women are the first ones to laugh at one of their own. Am sure even in voting, very few women vote for the women.
It is the high time women spoke the same language despite their social references. Once they overcome this weakness, they will manage their political issues. I still insist, in kenya women have a long way to go. i wish they can visit Rwanda and see how women behave. The Rwandan women are role models of women. Hawa wa kenya, bure kabisaaa.

Rose , the women in the Yes campaign worked hard, there was something at Uhuru park aimed at targeting young women, and as  Jagem said, they

The reason why you dont think they shouted hard enough is because of a patriarchal society that uses every opportunity not to give women a chance.  Media is one of the greatest tools available to politicians and others, and yet they tend to continue potraying women as standing behind men, being led by men and castigating them for their clothes, personal life etc.  It is very rare for ANY type of media to uplift a woman..
If you take the example of Sarah Palin and Bush, both in my opinion have a similar IQ...however, the media focusses on Sarah, looking at her clothes, the problems with her family, spend alot of time and effort capturing her poor grammar and lack of knowledge, and they did not do the same to Bush at the same scale

This is a gender issue Rose.  Sometimes, women try hard but face alot of obstacles and glass ceilings that only collective attitudinal change can help them master .... let us be kind to our sisters and uplift their efforts however small.......

Whatever the case, what the women did was too little comparatively and what they are being told here is, they should team up next time and do a better Job. Rift valley alone does not represent all the provinces of kenya. The women were just following behind men and repeating what they were saying including NO campaign. Very few women shouted out loud. The women should learn a lesson that they will assist in cooking but at the end of it all wanapatua nyama ya neck which is taste less. I hope they have learn a lesson so that next time they stand on their own as the church did.

Kagwiria

Lona Leboso, Margaret Sambili, Sally Kosgei are all Ministers or Assistant Ministers. They Championed Yes, throughout the Heartland of "Lift Farrey" against the Tide of Uwongo wa NO.

THey do not neccessarily have to be in that Comittee, but I believe there are very important Roles that they are gonna play in the implementation. This I know for certain.

Zighe
Hi dear, i know it came as shock to you, but lets face reality. Very few women went public to support whatever was happening, and if my guess is right, it was because of the abortion clause which most felt would be blamed if they supported yes. I am a woman and i understand why women will never talk loud when it comes to matters of reproductive health. I would like to hear a female minister who went public to support YES campagn. Was there any? If No, are there female ministers in our parliament? If yes, why did they go against the government? If there was female minister who was campagning for YES and has not been selected for this committee, then that is too bad. We can ask publicly why she could not be included in the committee.
What i am expecting is to see more women, pastors and priests in the committee of NO if any. This is where we even witness grenades as a sign of NO.

To all. I dont think women should be in this committee until they wake up

Thanks for bringing up this issue. Personally my feelings are very different from what people feel. During the campaign its mostly men who were fighting. The women who dared raise the voice were on NO side. Why do women want to eat food they never cooked? In these forums very few women dared campaign for Yes. The others were silent waiting for people to cook then they jump in front to eat. Nobody wanted to be known she is for Yes because she will not get sacrament on sunday or pastor so and so will excommunicate me from the Church. Shame on you women. Its the time you should SAY WHAT YOU DO and DO WHAT YOU SAY. Mr. Kibaki and the rest keep up with your good work. Give those who said loudly what they deserve and those who feared to be seen saying yes, Sorry you have to stand on your own principals. Have a great fearful day or night

Zighe,

That's the beauty of this new constitution. If it's explicitly adhered to, it will provide a platform for this necessary change. Women will also be able to hold part of the sky, to quote Mao Tse Tung.

Courage,
Maurice

That deficiency is something that struck me immediately. These people are completely steeped in this kind of thinking.

President Kibaki perfected the art of appointing commissions et al that comprised men only. Thank God we now have a new constitution. It is therefore unfortunate that the committee that is gonna forsee implementation of the same is made up of men only (cabinet minister, lawyers by profession). As much as there may not have been a female minister with the qualifications, they should have created room and made an exemption. Martha Karua played a major role in ensuring that we got a tight proof constitution. What makes it so hard to have her in this committee despite not being a minister? How sure are we as women that these men are gonna make sure that the gains we made are not lost?

Will put it the way Papa does.... Bureeeee Kabiiiiiiisa!

Zighe
