Re: El Bashir.

Dere.. I like excuses, explanations like yours below reminds me of KANU days when if you pointed out facts or ills being committed, the first rejoinder from Kanu would a "conspiracy" theory. So, those who want Bashir arrested for mass murder want oil, to sell guns and the list goes on, maybe yes, maybe no. Your explanation about "their intentions" in reference to the ICC and the rest of us who want bashir held to account,  can sound like good music to Bashir's "Kanu" in Sudan by the way.

It is a good reason why we should not bother to bring to book those who burnt women and children in their houses in Eldoret and Naivasha. It is good reason why we should forget the shooting of people in Mathare, Kibera and Kisumu. We should actually leave alone the people who were hacking others in Nakuru and Limuru, those who killed and burnt villages in Bomet, sotik and kericho.
Those who executed the villagers in Wagalla should be left free.

Why? because if and when you bring the perpetrators of clashes in kenya to book, their communities will go to war with each other. The people who want them arrested have intentions to benefit from communities fighting each other, there will be market for relief supplies, new NGOs will find work in the areas of fighting. Arrows and machetes will be selling like hot-cake and these companies and business making these will benefit, donor funding will come in to support the displaced from the fighting.
Meanwhile, the resources of the communities will be plundered.. like their land will be bought for a song, their jobs will go..

I think I love conspiracy theories. Criminals always use conspiracy theorists to excuse their crime. Saddam used it to justify his "gassing" of the kurds. Religious extremists use it all the time to blow up innocent people and say that it is because of the west, the east or the oil.
Dictators use it to detain without trial and execute their opponents.

Unless you want to deceive yourself, Sudan or any other Arab uniting with the rest of Africa to "..stage war against them (the west), is a pipe dream in the pits of slumber. Why?
Because, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco are only African when they need your support to battle the west. The rest of the days, they are Arab to the bone. You know what that means?

It means that they consider you, the rest of Africa, inferior to them. Don't you see what happens to black Africans in Saudi?

You say.. "Bashir is a mass murderer, but how clean are the punishers", Well, my answer is, someone must stand up for the weak. The government arrests and jails criminals, not because the government is clean, but because the criminal broke the law and was caught by the dirty government... and held responsible. At least the criminals neighbors and friends can live in peace under the dirty government.

That is why even the perpetrators of PEV must be held responsible so that we don't breed anarchy. Bashir needed the hague before signing the PCA in 2005. He needs it now more than ever before, as Jakasirme has ably said.

Some of u may be right,Bashir has indeed killed many, and so should be punished.Personally,im not lookin at the crimes Bashir may have committed,im lookin at the interests of some of those calling for his punishment. Some people or regimes or corporations want the guy to be punished so that they have access to certain resources, for example Oil.Some people want Bashir to be arrested and punished so that war will spark in Sudan and while at war, they can sell weapons to the warring sides, have access to the region's riches and on top of that, when war is over,we can invite their companies to come and do the repairs, the rebuilding of a destroyed nation. They luv to see us fighting coz when we fight,we can never unite and stage war against them.Find out how some of these regimes have using and ab-using Africa,Asia,South America for their own selfish gains.Bashir is a mass murderer, but how clean are the punishers

I totally agree with you. People need to show their full identity including the photo and tel. in addition to their personal email, if they know what they are saying are facts

Hi

This man using UoN address, please I beg you to use your common sense when sending emails to this forum. We are not going to deal with  UoN, as it is not aperson. But an institution. The other time we got an email from Coptic Hospital and it was discovered to be a kwack, so let me not have that second thought this is the same person.

Secondly, dont be vague when you are posting things that are weighty, you as aperson seems to have not gone beyond University of Nairobi, to come here and start lecturing us on what goes on in Darfur, please ask any Kenyan who has worked in Darfur to tell you the true story of what goes on there before you come up with this kiind of crap. It does not matter whether you are aluding that people will criticise you or not and you were right in your thinking because you knew pretty well that it was complete nonsense. Your arguement is purely library based.

Howere, have you ever heard of a government militia called Janja Weid who are operating under the guise of Khartoum Government,  dont talk of theories you are reading in the news papers. You need to get facts right and you can be told the true picture. Try to know the history of Darfur and why Bashir is killiing those poeple. For any happening, there  must be underlying factors tthat contribute to such actions being taken such people. There is something the Darfurians refused that can not be done. Dont bring issues of oil as if you were there but only reading papers. Sometimes, i feel very un easy with these kinds of brains, who want to justify attrocities being metted against fellow human beings with stereotype thinking.

Be carefull, I have witnessed it all and dont remind of it as I feel offended to hear such sentiments particulalry when i remember how people were butchered in Khoroma, Edjad Siid, Kass, Abukarinka, Assylaya, Adila and many other places in Darfur.

Take it back with you and re-evaluate what you want us to hear.

To begin with, Kikwete was not at the function, Bashir is not Mohamed but Omar. It is unfortunate that most Kenyans see thigs from a Western perspective to become the potential "western parrots". As intellectuals we have to analyse the Darfur case carefully and avoid falling into the quagmire. I certainly know that many of you will be furious but, let's get our facts right. The was between Bashir and the West is due to Oil. The Sudan oil was discovered by an American company and due to their exploitation tendecies Bashir gave the tender to a Chinese firm. As intellectuals, i ask guys to make thei own conclusions. Do we remember saddam we were told he has WMD - Weapons of Mass Destruction, but until he was nyogwaed by the Americans te WMD had not been discovered.

The Sudan leader was in Kenya today - one of the dignitaries to witness the promulgation of the new constitution. Meanwhile, Mohamed el Bashir is still a wanted man by the ICC for genocide in Darfur.

As signatories to the ICC Laws and given that our constitution (old and new) has included ratified international laws as part of our governing law,

(a) should we have invited el Bashir at all?
(b) while here, were we not under obligation to arrest him and hand him over to the Hague and
(c) what then is our foreign policy with regard to Darfur?

Anyone?
