Re: RE: How do I come back to Kenya with my 9 year-old car?

Theus,

You chose to read what suited you? The paragraph starts with "Ans: Motor vehicles of over 8 years old are not allowed into Kenya as per the KS 1515:2000 quality standard by the Kenya Bureau of Standards. Kenya Customs enforces this requirement."

You chose to reflect on "This year, we are allowing vehicles manufactured in the year 2001 and thereafter." When was this article posted? Don't mislead people.

Now lets convince him to sell the car to the Antique and bring the money home so that we use the money to welcome him back home.

What will be the cos if he requests to bring it as an antique then?

Nancy,

I think he loves that car. Have you taken time to watch car freaks?. Car freaks  love cars more than even  their girl friends, they wash the cars everyday.  Who washes his girl friend everyday on earth here today?. One day a car freak said these words`if the bitch does not go to the bathroom herself then he is done with her`, but his old car still stays on the door way and get a constant bath.  Well the girl friend also said `to hell with that  son of a bitch and they parted ways.To some men a car is an extension of themselves. Me I do support this brother who wants to take all his belonging with him back home. If the car was expensive and was actually handmade then I do think that even 10 year old car is still worth taking back to Kenya. If he lives in Nairobi  he will drive it at luxury times since there  are a lot of matatus or buses he will use to go to work, hence the car will just gain more value. Nancy; , have you taken time to visit car museums? and see how much those old good cars in good condition cost even in Kenya today?. That car might be sold to Kenya museum and from that money he can buy even his new wife another car plus his own. I am not a fortune teller but some have just done what I am try to tell you.

Ooooh yes, the old cars are very durable. Paul, why do you want to encourage this guy to bring in an old car. Fuel cost is also very expensive on such vehicles my friend. Spares are not easy not are they cheap to come by in Kenya for the same vehicles

Nancy,

Do not be all that naive. An 8 year old mercedes bence S-series, or Porche, or Ferrari will still last longer  and survive kenyan roads than any brand new Toyota corolla or Hyundai or any Kia being sold in Kenya. Some of those cars are customary handbuilt.  Or a Jeep wrangler will take ages to disintegrate check most of Jeep wranglers built in USA and see how many years they take to age down. That car may be this man`s icon or he might have survived in it so he may have very good reason to transport it with him home. Look at even the old Swedish volvos,  You will see a lot on the road compaired to some of these present  disposible cars. Can you believe that some bettle engines built in the 1960s are still working even better than a brand new Golf engine?

I think there is an expensive levi on a car over 8yrs old. Why pay more for such a car to come and drive it on the kind of roads that we still have. It may not survive.

just give it to your neighbor. I know in some countries you can not dispose of your old ramshackle. Bringing that "car" to Kenya will cost you enough money to buy another "new used" one from China or Taiwan.

Dear knowledgeable folks.

I have a prohibited (above 8 years) vehicle and I know to return back with it, I need an exemption from the Minister of Industrialization. Does anyone know precisely what the procedure for getting this exemption is especially since am still outside the country and cannot physically walk to the Minister for assistance?
