Re: BOGUS ENTERTAINMENT

Suzzanne,

I have read your email and I just felt I had to respond to your sentiments. You see the reason why the football African cup in Angola and the recently world cup in South Africa ceremonies were such full of pomp and color, is because people came out and made it happen. The reasons why our level of entertainment is the way it is, is because we dont utilize our talents although we are very good at criticizing and pointing fingers while we just sit at the bench and expect others to do something.

So, instead of pointing out the failures and how bogus the entertainment is, why dont you give us ideas and tips on what can be done to improve the situation. Furthermore, Susan Owiyo and others will continue entertaining guests at state functions as long as no one else comes up to improve on it.

The challenge is you and me, not them. They have done their part and maybe they need further guidance on how to improve it to the standards of how the ceremony at the World Cup was.

Before you start pointing out mistakes and faults, always appreciate the efforts that have already been made before u point a criticizing finger. If you note something is wrong, dont just dwell on it GIVE A SOLUTION.

I had  an opportunity  yesterday  to watch  bits  and pieces  of the  17th Edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships, opening  ceremony  !! well  having  watched  the opening  ceremonies of the football  African  cup  in Angola  and   the   recently concluded  world  cup  ,  I was  disappointed  to tears !!!  surely   decades   later  we  still stage  some  unsynchronized  dances  by  our  traditional  dancers . you would  expect  that   after  so many  years of  doing  the  same  thing  there  would be some   value  addition? All those  music  festival    have  brought  nothing  New????

Nigeria  and  south Africa  have  some  great  dances ,  you watch them and  you think OMG im proud  to be  an African  , so much effort  is  put  ,from the dancing  attire  to the Choreography …just  superb!!!!

Then  why  make  susan  owiyo and  other local artist   sing  songs  that  half  the  crowd  doesn't  understand  and  worse   make   them  use  a  poor  sound  system ? listening   to  this musicians   was  painful  to say the  least   ,plus with such  a  crowd  I bet  people  want  to see more and  not  listen !!  in this  I mean   see  action  like dance  and  not  listen    to music  which they cant  relate  with ?it  reminded  me of  some  boring Kenyan government  functions.

At least  the kids  who did  that  little  dance   that  culminated in the  formations   of  the  African  flag  was  OK   it  was  highly charged  and  well  Choreographed , of course leaving many of us  wide mouthed  with amazement   …but its  good  to note  while  for  Kenyans   this  was  a  new  thing  , its  the norm  in other  events    both in Africa and  abroad .

What im saying   is     a lot more  effort  and investment  should be  made   to  add  value  to our  products  not just   goods  but  services , more  so in the entertainment  industry ……..after all im sure  we want  to  be  more  than  just  another  poor African  country .

Then another  thing  what's  with  our  Kenyan  politicians   and  reading    speeches  done    for  them word for  word ?  surely  the speakers- in this  case  our  beloved  president, he sounded   soooooooooo  detached  from the whole  thing !!!!surely kibaki would  have  done  well to at least  try and   ad- lib !!!! It was  so boring to listen to him …. yet  just the other  day I was  watching   a  show  on KBC  where   they were  discussing  the  world  cup and  saying how  kenya   should  host  one  in  20 20soemthing !!! surely will we    go far  with this  second  hand  mentality of  ours ??? just  a thought !!!
