This is an interesting and healthy debate.
Unfortunately Robert is right and all those of the contrary opinion are dead wrong on this subject. We would love the Saul-to-Paul storyline to spring to life with this appointment, underwhelming as it is. But guys, here we're in for one looooong ride - and yes, at your expense! PLO is right in that job, not by accident but by design. And not because of regard to integrity or illustrious history, rather the lack of it. And it serves the fat cats and big dogs just right.
For those holding their breath for some breakthrough, kindly accept my sympathies in advance.
And I don't think that invoking the imageries of Barack Obama's spectacular success will perfume the skunk. No magical transfusion will occur! They had/have a star, a believable reformer. We have a skunk, phony in perpetuity. Period! The comparison is far-fetched and a fallacy.Great danger lies in the fallacy of hasty generalizations - they look good from far but are far from good.
This is another example that illustrates clearly the difference between the US and us; while the US would put premium on due diligence and scour this appointee's past history with a toothcomb and while he would have been fully put in the dock and held accountable for all past travesties, here are with a vetting system that is flawed and a public all so eager to invest in some blind faith, some form of public ethics voodoo. Banking on magical mutations instead of making standards work!
Hard facts and rigorous scrutiny, and not some woolly faith, ought to be the touchstone of appointments to key public office. Selective memory and cherry-picking will not simply do! By no stretch of imagination can PLO and Obama be put on the same plane - even if just metaphorically. They are as like as day is to night!
Methinks that we will never climb out of the morass of underdevelopment and the miasma of public leadership deceit we've been stuck in for decades until we're willing to change standards and to hold people to account - and that includes lustrating some of them.
To the PLO supporters/sympathizers/hero-gazers and searchers remember the dictum; TRUST BUT VERIFY!

I can not help but associate myself wth your sentiments respecting PLO and his occupation of the KACC position. At face value, I imagined he was an attractive candidate for the position but the more I investigate his background, the more I am hesitant to endorse him. What turned me off the most was his refusal to share his electricity transformer with the local school at his native home in Nyanza. The school had to pay for a separate transformer when one was there already. Yet the powers that be were there to overrule him. I have a lot of doubts about this guy, a lot of doubts.
Let's hope he redeems himself through actions.

To me, PLO is just the worst choice for KACC. PLO is one of the worst
underworld operative. The last time I met this guy in his office,
Githongo was coming back to the country. Githongo was expected like in
the next 1 week. What PLO told me made me reinforce my disbelief in
his reform credentials. PLO we know grabbed the Oyugi family house in
Runda. We know that PLO was a Moi henchman in defeating pro-reform
operatives in campus. PLO sat and never raised a finger in a commision
when they earned so much and the country was crying what they were
doing in office.
PLO to me is just not going to do much. He will blind Kenyans with big
words. BTW when you meet PLO in private, he even doesnt know those big
words and so I think he gets the adrenaline while infront of cameras
and mics. PLO will never do anything against the corrupt. He will
otherwise be forced to start by arresting his best friends like Moi.
Has he BTW resigned his position at various Moi establishments
including Kabarak University?
Lets not be hoodwinked. If PLO will act, we must push him to act
because he is not and has never been in the league of reformers.
