This involvement by US ambassador is kinda as a twist of fate. Back then - 90s, during the struggle for the second liberation of Kenya, i.e. re-peal of section 2A of the document which banned multipartyism in Kenya. The then US Ambassador to Kenya, a Mr. Smith Hemstone - God bless him - was a staunch supporter of the Matiba group (pro re-introduction of multipartyism), and even at some point was involved in hiding some of the activists in his official vehicle and ferrying them to Kamukunji Grounds for a FORD rally; which the sitting government of the day was bitterly against. Mr Hemstone was a darling to many Kenyans for his support, and a pain in the @#$#& for the gov. So "Big Brother" will constantly meddle but if the little brothers realise that "intelligence beats strength" the better for them all.
