Re: difference between Luoz, Luos, Jeng', Mjaluo, Jaluo and Mjaka?

Dickens,
I am now with you. I didnt realize that the original joke had sired some stupid stuff and so now I understand your anger. They were not misplaced. We have to remind folks when they overstep as long as we dont use Jomo Kenyatta's language. He went to Embu one time for a public meeting and the good people of Embu received him well until he asked them what they wanted. They said farms and tractors. Then he asked them whether they were growing the fern (ruthiru) to eat and then the old man asked them "kana murenda ndimuhe muti uyu wakwa murie? (or you want me to give you my tree you eat?) as he pointed at his zipper. That Kenyatta language must be condemned.

I didnt know you are a Mbita graduand. I was the best student in 83 and I believed I resided at Migingo. Prof. Ogeno who is in KU was my Geo. teacher. Nyauke was the HM and Nyandika the Deputy HM. I campaigned for Nyakiamo in that year and the causeway linking Rusinga Island was completed as I watched. I initially would go to Rusinga via a ferry and later the causeway rendered it useless.

MV Kamongo would take me to Kisumu via Home Bay and then the train to Nairobi (Third Class). The journey lasted 3 days. The 82 coup caught me in Kisumu where we celebrated Ochuka's short lived power grabbing. I drank my first beer in Kisumu at Pad Pieri (sp) which I was told means hide your buttocks.

I have been to Sindo. We need to return there for a revisit. My certificate is still there at Mbita Point. I have danced so many times in open air discos staged by Kolela maze and Misiani.

I am not surprised to hear that there are PNU voting boys in and around Mbita Point. Those rocks can tell tales and I am not going to talk too much because I think I owe unpaid child supports in Mbita area. Some of the children can be traced in Langwe since I was a frequent visitor at Ogande Girls. I have even been chased by wild animals in the game park in Lambwe since poverty had reduced our activities to the green lodges and in another instances we fertilized the maize, cotton and beans of South Nyanza with the spill overs. You should not have aroused these satanic verses, my Mbita Memoirs.

Askofu,
Now you agree with me that the last part of the humor was indeed in bad taste? I've read the joke before, but the common denominator bit of it was intensely irritating.

Migosi Sungu is currently in Nairobi, probably part of the reason he appears to be quiet.
I'm happy to learn that you were an old boy of Mbita. When were you resident there? Tongue in cheek, there is a boy around the school who has those central Kenya propensities you talked about earlier. Could it be true?

I slept in Ligongo in 1989...and I recently bought a piece of land in Nyamanga, about a kilometre from the school towards Sindo, where my home is now. When you come around to touch base with where you first proved that you were a man, I shall host you and ensure that we make you a Suba elder.

My regards.

Mitawia Dickens.

Thanks sana Migosi Dickens,
Since I last wrote my piece, i did read in some response that the "joke" had some nonsense added into the original one. I didnt read Cathrine's because I assumed it was the same as the original one which to me sounded harmless.

Yes, we need to laugh at some jokes but at the same time we should not condone those jokes which are insultive and aimed at putting down some groups or communities. I would agree and support whoever condemns those jokes which are nothing but pieces of nonsense meant to demean some groups. There is a think line between insult and jokes sometimes.

You probably read one piece where I meantioned of my Luo friends who would come to wake me up at Mbita Point for breakfast. They would throw coins on the floor and the noise would get me straight from the bed and would be running to the DH for nyuka (uji). Everybody including yours truly would laugh over "the Okuyu who rose from death after hearing the sound of mbeca". Some people would get upset about such but to me that made our day and it assured me of getting woken up for prep and for breakfast by my good friends at the lakeside school.

Where is your uncle Sungu? He has been quiet.

Kuria

Migosi Kuria,
I have separately tendered my apologies to Catherine.
Perhaps I may add that when somebody in another forum actually tried to
justify those assertions, then I was led to believe that it ceased being humour.
Anyway, there was too much going on!

I also thought this was pure humor. It has been in circulation for a while and Catherine must have forwarded the peace. I am surprised to see
Dickens lose his cool because he is one of the most sober minded fellows in town. Sungu need to talk to his uncle (who is uncle to who?) on this one.

Dickens,

Given the spirit of Catherine's submission which we all agree was meant as humour, I think you have used very very unnecessary harsh and insulting language.

Calling someone an a-hole in a public forum is never justified no matter the provocation.

I must therefore regrettably advise that you offer Catherine an apology.

Courage,
Maurice

I've no apologies to make about this, but Catherine, you are a black, stinking and greasy ass-hole. If your subject would have indicated that you are giving us comic relief, I'd have understood and smiled, but this.....? SIMPLE MIND.....!!!!!!!!

Did you know the difference between Luoz, Luos, Jeng', Mjaluo, Jaluo
and Mjaka?

Here's the difference.

1.    Luoz - are all over the world yaani diasporic, highly educated
and articulate. I mean Obama type of people... They will die
supporting Arsenal FC, Brazil , All Blacks, Harambee Stars and Gor
Mahia.

2.    Luos - are born and raised in Kisumu, probably went to Kisumu
Boys/Girls High schools, then joined Maseno University or Kisumu Poly,
work along Oginga Odinga Street in Kisumu and have never travelled
past Ahero! They adore boda boda and Guinness.

3.    Jeng' - were probably born and raised in Nai (read Nairobi ),
lived in Lang'ata or surrounding. Have been to shags once or twice for
grandy's funeral coz paros insisted. Says his/her shags is In
upcountry somewhere in Nyanza. You say "amosi omera" to them and they
respond "niaje jo vipi". And they are only seen during Gor and AFC
matches at City Stadium.

4.    Mjaluo - was born in Mombasa , speaks swahili sanifu, broken
English and no mother tongue. Full names are Otieno Abdalla or Anyango
Amina.. Is a Muslim, lives in Ganjoni or surrounding and thinks Kisumu
people are "watu wa bara".

5.    Jaluo - Odhis ngima tek owada, we a bed e gweng' ka!!
OMERA!!!!

6.                      Wajaka - are born and raised in Eastlands
predominantly Ololo, Okongo, Jeri, Salem , Bangla, Ofaro, Marish,
Mbote, and Huruma. They have never gone past Ungem and they only know
that they are Luos because of their second names. They know Kisumu is
a town near Nakuru, where you pass ukiishiia kwa kina mbuyu..

N/B. All of the above have some things in common i.e;

ü  They throw stones anyhow, anytime.

ü  They vandalize the railway in Kibera (whatever their location)

ü  They don't read Katiba because s'one reads for them.
