Re: [NewVisionKenya] William Ruto and the Kalenjin Nation

Evans, I would like to respond to your querries as follows:

1. Nyongo and Orengo opposed the appointment of Ringera which was discussed and approved in the cabinet. It was a cabinet decision but they opposed the same on the floor of the house by saying they were not bound by collective responsibility to support what they saw as a blatant violation of the law. Why did they not address the same in the cabinet meeting? your gues is as good as mine.

2. The point of departure between Ruto and the new constitution was what the committee of experts removed or added. Remember there were quite a number of ministers who had misgivings in certain clauses? remember Wetangula on Citizenship? remember Michuki who decided to support his friend Kibaki and not the constitution? amendments were proposed in the house but many members of parliament frustrated these efforts. The difference between these people and Rutto is that Rutto decided to stick to what he believed in..... that amendments should be done before the referendum. The others curled their tails and decided to support it because they feared their principals. Mahatma Gandhi said this, " A No said with the CONVICTION of the heart is better than a YES said to please someone or to avoid trouble". I agree with him entirely. Rutto should not be villified for dissenting.....he created an alternative view which should form part of our learning process. That is the fundamental principle/pillar of democracy.

Those who wanted to herd all of us to say yes are missing the point and are talking politics. Can you imagine if everybody was saying YES? It would have been boring. Life is not good without competition, but the competition should be healthy. Let Rutto live his life.

Bro.Musasia,

I do not like vilification, and agree with you on the aspect of universalism.

But what puts Hon.Ruto to some questions is as follow;-

1.He went against the a cabinet decision of the reclamation of Mau.As a member of the cabinet,he shoulders collective responsibility not only about the mau but any agenda agreed and or voted for to do with kenya as a country.Any objections must be a dressed at the cabinet table. This applies to all ministers whether to do with their ministries or something that may touch the common man ( re-routing a road),doing a community project that requires displacement - how could he have responded if he was the minister for Environment and or wildlife !

2.The Minister has been in parliament and seen parliamentary processes on katiba among others. He was at Naivasha where his contributions are recorded among others. The Kabete retreat and parliament proceedings settled the draft as was published by the AG.

Those are among the areas that point negatively in that he does not own collective responsibility.

Unlike the water melons,he was forthright and created himself a centre to avoid a KISIRANI or KASARANI Declaration for our law.

Ruto and the kalenjins had the constitutional right to vote their way.If you call yourself a democrat and attack Ruto for what is democratically right, then you are contradicting yourself.I don't believe in universalism. Universal endorsement of the constitution without  a honest and sincere debate is not healthy in a democracy ,neither is the vilification of those who share divergent opinions in that regard.Ruto, was good at the 2005 referendum when he opposed the then constitution, he was at the right side of history. When he did the same thing this time round, he is demonized. He is the same Ruto of YK'92.The same RUTO of the KANU regime. The same RUTO of the 2005 referendum and the same Ruto everybody wants to see at the Hague. He is the same RUTO who's star was rising , nothing has changed. It's only getting better or Worse. He is gonna be a factor in kenyan politics for years to come unless otherwise.

Ruto's flip flops will soon backfire in his backyard and this will dim his political career forever.  I have just been on phone with a good friend of mine whom we did a farmland deal from Kwanza. He told me that Ruto ni mkora and very soon, the Kalenjins will ditch him for his trickery and follow the right path. Those who did realize his lies did in fact support the new law during the referendum.

By and large, siasa hubadilika, mioyo ya watu hubadilika na vile vile wanasisasa hubadilika. Wakati huu tuna katiba mpya and those who think they will survive after making wrong turns locally and nationally, they must be ready for shock.

I used to admire Mr. Ruto's vibrancy and in him I saw a rising star. I saw a man who is bold, smart and well versed with the aspirations of the nation.

However, with time, I started seeing an unstable leader and not able to articulate what is good for Kenya. I saw a man hell-bent on narrow ethnic interests at the expense of the whole nation. To speak the reality, he betrayed many of us who had a feeling that he was a good material for national leadership.

Encouragingly, we have hundreds of thousands of Kalenjins who knows which side of the bread that is buttered and will not stoop too low to yield to the whims of Mr. Billy.

Evans, thanks for pointing out the likes of one of the heroes in professionalism; Dr. Julius Kipngetich. Besides him, we have many leaders in the community who will guide the people to make clear and informed choices on national matters.

Dear Ken,

Your recent posting that the community will surrender their titles at Nyayo stadium come the new law was indeed a blow that has taken a toll in this posting again.

Other postings that the kalenjin land was not voting for the draft law but an election sounded to me as an abuse.I can now understand from the bitter coffee as you have put it.

Hon.Ruto is a national leader - it appears that he reads a different script elsewhere from that he presents to the kalenjin nation.

Given that, how will other nations consider him for the presidency for a country known as kenya. In particular, how will he lead in national reclamation like the Mau and implement new laws let alone the KATIBA.

IT TOOK NELSON MANDELA SEVERAL YEARS FOR US TO SING AFRICA SHALL BE FREE.- THAT IS WHAT I CAN SEE ABOUT YOU AND THE LIKES OF Dr.Kipngetich and The Kalenjins Professionals for YES.

It has pained you and what will happen when the same countrymen wake up!

Aluta contitnua,you will overcome.

Sometimes ago I opined in this forum that Hon Ruto will as long the Kalenjin community is there, use it for his personal selfish interest unless my fellow tribemen woke up to the bitter coffee.
I was bombarded with insults by the likes of Chemurwok to the extend of implying that i was betrayal to the community or that i was masquerading as a Kalenjin.
Rewind 2002 - Ruto and Moi were in the forefront in whipping the community to support project Uhuru when the entire country was progressive in seeking alternative change in the then NARC, to the last man they voted for the project and the entire country voted in Kibaki.
2007 - Ruto herded the community to support Arap Mibei - man from the lake (Raila) and one year thereafter said he made a mistake, that he was not Arap Mibei but Arap Labei - one who has drowned. Infact he had a personal disagreement
Now the Kalenjin was led to say No when the entire country overwhelminingly said yes.
Kalenjin nation that's William Ruto for you!
