I did have the same problem sometime last year but I contacted safaricom online - email and they responded. I actually realized that I had not followed the correct top up procedure. FYI, do you know that you should not connect before activating your account? You also need to check if your computer has automatic updates, you need to turn them off as this can also finish your credit.
Since you understand your problem, please email them, they will be glad to get back to you. I used to have the same feelings when I had the same problem but they did assist me.
