Re: Kenya changing from a tribe momentum to an ideology momentum!!!!

Ndugu Dickens,

You see, Daktari Abonyo has not seen the emerging scenario, first and foremost, the draft KATIBA has thrown into disarray tribal arithmetic because there are no positions for tribal kingpins to "negotiate" the numbers they bring on board.

Secondly, run offs will wipe out tribal numerical strengths when pitted against the rest of Kenya, no tribe can try throwing its numerical strength on the table and hope to get anywhere.

Thirdly, smaller tribes will coalesce around issues rather than tribal kings and they will determine, to a greater extent the swing votes, one singular tribal voting machine has no place in the new political dispensation heralded by the new constitution, those who have a clear analytical mind and wish to run for the Presidency had better start courting the whole of Kenya rather than their tribes.

With the advent of counties, the wider interests will be driven by county politics rather than tribal politics, so it may not matter which tribe you belong to but which county. We may start seing cross county(a mixture of tribes) realigning rather than tribal groupings. Such counties will be fronting the best minds from their backyards(irrespective of tribe) to the national leadership.

Nd. Sungu

How can you be so true! That was an incisive piece, thought provoking and politically stimulating. I read this against an earlier post by Nd. Abonyo...I believe...and gave me a lot to think about.

I guess I still have to ask myself whether the results of the Referendum is an indication that another tribal Kingpin has been created in Ruto, as posited by Nd. Abonyo or whether the 20 or so years of civic education is slowly changing the common citizen's perception on leadership and issues of governance.

But more importantly, a debate is slowly emerging on the future of politics of sycophancy and skewed development initiatives...depending on which region the Presidency hails, and whether with proper supporting legislative instruments, the new constitution offers a respite to such mindset.

Cheers!

Mitawia Dickens.

Subject: Kenya changing from a tribe momentum to an ideology momentum!!!!

Because I promised to focus on looking forward than backwards, I will only look backward to give relevance to the future. So in this case, I am being futuristic.

My observations are simple, that Kenya is fast moving from tribe momentum to ideology momentum, such that by and large, one single tribe will no longer have the muscle to determine issues or elections despite their numerical strength.

Here are my posits, in 2002, Kenyans came together to defeat dictatorship, we went around it the poor way by aligning with tribal Kings as our bargaining chips into the NARC revolution, it never held because the tribal kings overode the underlying ideology driving it rather than the desire to remove dictatorship and reforming Kenya as the bigger picture. The political class was obviously elated to "represent" us on the negotiating tables. We were disappointed for hinging our hopes on individuals and individual arrangements.

In 2005, Central voted in isolation to pass a draft that the rest of Kenya rejected, we all know the consequences of that vote, the whole Province looked in dismay as the whole nation broke into jubilation for defeating  a mutilated draft despite its numerical voting strength.
In 2007, 7 out of 8 Provinces did the same thing, mobilizing tribal representatives, things would have still gone heywire in the coalition that would have followed had ODM been declared winners in the bungled elections going by the charge by Rift Valley MPs that they were shortchanged after formation of the grand Coalition Government.Their expectation would have been even higher if ODM had been declared winners. But the underlying desire by Kenyans was to remove a regime that had denied them the change it promised.

On the flipside, Central voted to a man for the incumbent President, the results of that election were heavily disputed leading to deaths and PEV that almost brought the country to its knees.

In 2010, the Rift Valley has overwhelmingly voted for a draft that has been overwhelmingly passed by the majority despite their numerical voting strength. From the foregoing, numerical voting strength is beginning not to count much if the underlying ideology is missing, in 2007, PNUs ideology was not selling much despite having a community with numerical strength to overturn tables, in 2005, the same happened, in 2010, Rift Valley is now lying on the thorny bed as the whole nation jubilates on a new constitutional dispensation.

From the foregoing, tribal numerical voting strength is slowly beginning to ebb away in terms of influence, it thus means any politician beating their chests on account of tribal numbers are missing the point big time. recent opinion polls have begun to show a trend where Kenyans despite their ethnicity, are beginning to show Presedential preferences not neccesarily based on big tribes but on calibre of leaders.

This trend is likely to be fortified by the trends of voting from 2002 Presidential elections, 2005 referendum elections, 2007 Presidential elections and 2010 referendum elections.

We are slowly moving from a tribe to an ideology momentum, like in this last election where even the church could not change the tide of an electorate whose voting was largely informed by an ideology, that of a better Kenya.

Let us all move the momentum in the right direction, issues and not tribe or personalities.

Kenya Mpya!!!!!

Subject: Re: William Ruto and the Kalenjin Nation

Kennedy, I pity you my brother....... you are confirming my earlier assertion that you are a guy on hire to tarnish and portray the kalenjins in bad light for reasons best known to you. It is very clear that you are begging to be seen as a reasonable kalenjin. I put it to you that your machinations will not succeed. You look like a guy in despair trying to attract some attention for personal gain. Well, keep on trying.... may be something will land your way one day for your despicable behaviour.
Who is a kalenjin? did we vote as kalenjins or as individuals? i voted green and i am a kalenjin, did Ruto use me? of course not. I heard what he was saying but as much as he had some good points especially on land, i thought the timing was wrong. Who are you to judge the way the Kalenjin voted? did you not cast your vote as an individual? some examples you are giving in this forum like Onyango and Korir exchanging titles are really laughable...they can only be believed by kindargaten kids. Politics is about alliances; why aren't you castigating Mudavadi for supporting Raila? It is right for others to do so but not for Rutto... right bwana Kennedy? how about Raila supporting Kibaki in 2002? it looks good for him to do so but bad for Rutto to support Uhuru, right? so these other guys are doing it for us but Rutto is doing it for himself? you are disgusting. Why don't you just change your name to some Okello or Kennedy Andrew? you do not deserve the name Korir and I mourn for your father for giving you that name. You are a disgrace to the Kalenjin nation not for saying the truth but for peddling lies. Shame on you and your lot.

On 8/9/10, KENNEDY KORIR <korirken63@yahoo.com> wrote:

Sometimes ago I opined in this forum that Hon Ruto will as long the Kalenjin community is there, use it for his personal selfish interest unless my fellow tribemen woke up to the bitter coffee.
I was bombarded with insults by the likes of Chemurwok to the extend of implying that i was betrayal to the community or that i was masquerading as a Kalenjin.
Rewind 2002 - Ruto and Moi were in the forefront in whipping the community to support project Uhuru when the entire country was progressive in seeking alternative change in the then NARC, to the last man they voted for the project and the entire country voted in Kibaki.
2007 - Ruto herded the community to support Arap Mibei - man from the lake (Raila) and one year thereafter said he made a mistake, that he was not Arap Mibei but Arap Labei - one who has drowned. Infact he had a personal disagreement
Now the Kalenjin was led to say No when the entire country overwhelminingly said yes.
Kalenjin nation that's William Ruto for you!
